Re-styled and re-engineered by Lotus the Gen-2 delivers good looks, superb performance and an inspiring drive. Proton’s are built in Malaysia and we have been inspired by the finish. None of this ‘tin can’ business when closing the doors here and you will be amazed at the smoothness of the ride. You have a choice of 1.3 or 1.6 petrol, or the Ecologic, all available as hatchback or saloon and either manual or automatic.

The hatchback has instant sporty appeal with black bezels on the headlamps a deep front skirt and inset fog lights. There is a surprisingly huge boot, and many other features such as air conditioning, Bluetooth-ready audio unit, steering wheel mounted audio controls, electric front windows, tinted window glass, ABS and EBD across the range and electric mirrors on the Persona and the GSX. And for a luxurious finish and a bit extra you have the choice of full leather seats and choice of five metallic colours.

The saloon, known as the Persona, also makes a statement and incorporates the boot effortlessly while losing none of the aesthetic appeal. The saloon’s rear seats, like the hatchback, also split 60/40, so gives you scope to carry those awkward loads. You can also have these seats in leather!
